Before filming a video, you should always know the type of people with whom you would like to connect. Age, gender, profession, as well as size of segment, are all details you need to know before filming, so that through your videos you can appeal to the target audience’s needs and wants as much as possible. Then ask yourself, how do you want your audience to feel when watching your videos?

After selecting your audience, you need to find out which platform works best for sharing your videos. For example, if you plan to work with with social media, you will need to find out which platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube etc) your target market most frequently visits.

Remember, there is no point in sharing content on a platform that is not used by your target audience.

Once you know your audience and your platform, make sure to write copy in a way that is appropriate for both. For example, if you want to connect with working professionals you will need to use formal language, as apposed to the informal language you might use with your family or friends. Whereas, if your video is made to entertain, you can be more relaxed and colloquial in your language use and delivery.
