The Perfect Pitch

Using Your Body Language to Make an Impactful Video

Presenting in front of a camera for the first time is not easy, but luckily for us there are many ways to make an impactful presentation using your body language

Body Language

Body language is one of our strongest allies.

Experts say that 55% of our communication is nonverbal. This means that the message you are trying to deliver while speaking, or the impression you are trying to project of yourself, will not always be fully understood by your interlocutor, if your body language is all over the place.

Here’s a list of easy ways to control your body language to show confidence on camera:

Always Maintain Eye Contact

When talking in front of a camera, look down the lens as if you’re speaking to an individual that is in the same room as you.

This technique, will make the relationship between yourself and your audience feel more intimate.

Remain Grounded

Keep your feet hip distance apart, sink into the ground and avoid the temptation to shift around. You want to give a confident impression to your audience, not the other way around.

Adopt an Open Stance

Stretch out before you start recording. If you need to, you can also relax, shrug your shoulders, shake your arms, and  then force yourself to maintain an open position.

Free Yourself Up

Use your hands and body to express yourself but make sure they are meaningful and not all over the place.

Remember that exaggerated gestures may appear confusing and distracting to your audience.

Finally, try to replicate the body language you use in your daily life when you’re speaking to family and friends and allow it to show up when you’re presenting on camera.

Your audience will definitely perceive you as more relaxed and at ease with the situation, which will help in developing a trust relationship and a loyal fan base.

If you cannot naturally do it immediately, that’s okay, just “fake it until you make it”. I guarantee you, you will improve!
